DEMOLITION OF GYMNASTICS CENTRE

Hughes & Salvidge was appointed the role of a Principal Contractor to demolish a former swimming baths and gymnastics centre in Portsmouth.

This was the kick start project for Centros, Northern Quarter regeneration of the city, project managed by GVA Grimley.

The building was situated within neighbouring businesses that remained in operation throughout the works. Minimal disruption was achieved by co-ordination of all teams involved. Completion was achieved on time and on budget.

The site was home of the former training ship HMS Temeraire. Prior to demolition a farewell service was held by Hughes & Salvidge for past crew members who had trained and graduated there. Commader R Holmes, Royal Navy, invited Hughes & Salvidge to attend a passing out display at their new headquarters in Burnaby Road.
